What Is an AI Visibility Audit?
An AI visibility audit tests whether AI answer engines can reach your site, read it, work out who you are, and quote you. That is what the scan above runs, against your live domain, in a single pass. It is the same ground covered by the terms AEO, answer engine optimization, and GEO, generative engine optimization, which describe the same discipline from two directions.
AI search visibility is whether a generative answer engine can reach your site, read it without executing JavaScript, work out which business it belongs to, and quote it in an answer. It is not the same problem as ranking. Classic SEO asks where you sit in a list of ten blue links. AI visibility asks whether you make it into a single synthesised paragraph that names three sources and ignores everything else.
The mechanics are different in one way that matters more than any other. Most AI crawlers fetch your HTML and stop. They do not run your JavaScript bundle, they do not wait for hydration, and they do not see the content your framework paints after the first byte. A React or Vue site that renders everything on the client hands an answer engine a near-empty document, no matter how well it performs in Google, which does render JavaScript.

How Do I Run a ChatGPT SEO Check on My Website?
Two checks answer it. First, request your homepage without a browser and count the visible text in the response. If a curl request returns 200 characters of navigation and nothing else, that is what ChatGPT gets. Second, open your robots.txt and look for the agent names. The resolution rule catches people out. Under RFC 9309, a crawler that has no group of its own and no wildcard group covering it is allowed. Absence of a rule is permission, not refusal. The most specific matching group wins, and within it the longest matching path rule wins, with Allow beating Disallow on a tie. Plenty of sites believe they are blocking AI crawlers when their robots.txt says nothing relevant at all, and plenty of others block them by accident with a broad wildcard Disallow.

Why Is My Site Not Showing Up in AI Answers?
Four causes account for most cases, in this order.
- 01The site is client-rendered and returns an empty shell. The engine reads a loading state and moves to the next source.
- 02Robots.txt blocks the agents, often through a blanket rule written years ago for scrapers.
- 03There is no structured data, so nothing in the document states which organisation the site belongs to or how it connects to any verified profile.
- 04The brand has no independent footprint. With no consistent name, description, and profile set across the web, the engine cannot resolve the entity and will not risk attributing a claim to it.
None of the four is fixed by ranking higher. They are fixed by changing what your server returns and what the wider web says about your name.
Does This Audit Cover Google AI Overviews?
It covers the preconditions, not the outcome. A free AI Overview checker can tell you whether Googlebot and Google-Extended are allowed to reach you, whether your content is present in the HTML response, and whether your structured data states which organisation the page belongs to. Fail any of those and an AI Overview cannot use you. Pass all of them and you are eligible, which is not the same as included.
The two Google agents pull in opposite directions and get confused constantly. Blocking Google-Extended does not affect your Google Search ranking, but it does remove your content from Gemini grounding and AI Overviews. Blocking Googlebot removes you from Google Search altogether, AI Overviews included. The scan above resolves both.
What no free tool can tell you is whether you appear in an AI Overview for a given query today. Overviews vary by query, country, account, and week, and Google exposes no interface for checking them at scale. Any tool that promises a definitive answer is sampling a handful of prompts and presenting it as coverage. We would rather report what is measurable and say so.

One caveat we will not bury. The score measures whether engines can read and understand your site. It does not measure whether they are citing you today. Citation depends on the prompt, the engine, the country, and the competing sources, none of which a deterministic scan can observe. Treat a high score as the removal of technical reasons to skip you, not as proof of coverage.
Which Fix Should I Do First?
Work in the order the scanner gives you, because it sorts by points recoverable, and points map to how much of the site an engine can actually use. In practice the sequence is almost always the same: open crawl access, then move content into the HTML response, then declare the entity in JSON-LD, then restructure the page around questions, then publish the context files, then build the external footprint.

Does blocking AI crawlers hurt my visibility?

What is llms.txt and do I need it?
llms.txt is a plain-text file at your domain root that tells AI systems what your site is and points them at the pages that matter, in the same spirit as robots.txt or a sitemap. llms-full.txt carries the expanded content in one file. Adoption is not universal across engines yet, so treat it as cheap insurance rather than a requirement. It costs an hour to publish and it cannot hurt you.
